Después de hacer este video explicándo los conectores "nevertheless", "nonetheless" y "notwithstanding", me pidieron que les enseñe más linking words super formales para mejorar así sus writings formales. Así que, además de mi reel respuesta a ese pedido, les dejo acá abajo una lista aún más completa de 20 conectores formales!

BUT FIRST, QUÉ ES UN LINKING WORD?

Un "linking word" o "conector" es una palabra o frase que se utiliza para conectar ideas, oraciones o párrafos en un texto. O sea, su función es darle coherencia y cohesión a un texto, agregándole fluidez.

Estos linking words pueden cumplir la varias funciones como: agregar información, contrastar ideas, dar una secuencia temporal, indicar una causa y un efecto, ejemplificar, etc.

En español también usamos y son por ejemplo: sin embargo, a partir de entonces, en consecuencia, adicionalmente, etc.

Si bien estamos acostumbrados a muchos linking words que se utilizan en la vida diaria (and, but, however, so...), en la siguiente lista vamos a ver solamente los que se usan en contextos muyyyy formales, como textos académicos y profesionales. Podes entonces usarlos para romperla fuerte en tus reports, essays, thesis, contracts, formal letters, y más.

O sea, quedaría raro que los usaras para hablar con un amigo informalmente so maybe don't.

LISTA DE 20 LINKING WORDS MUY FORMALES

1. ALBEIT

• Significado: despite the stated thing

• Sinónimo: Even though

• Ejemplo en inglés: The sample size was small, albeit representative of the population.

  • El tamaño de la muestra era pequeño, aunque representativo de la población.

2. THUS

• Significado: As a result or consequence

• Sinónimo: in this way

• Ejemplo: The experiment was poorly designed; thus, the results are questionable.

  • El experimento fue mal diseñado; por lo tanto, los resultados son cuestionables.

3. HENCE

• Significado: For this reason

• Sinónimo: therefore

• Ejemplo: The two variables are positively correlated; hence, we can predict one from the other.

  • Las dos variables están positivamente correlacionadas; por esta razón, podemos predecir una a partir de la otra.

4. AS PREVIOUSLY STATED

• Significado: As mentioned earlier; as noted before

• Sinónimo: As mentioned earlier

• Ejemplo: The experiment yielded inconclusive results. As previously stated, further analysis is required to draw definitive conclusions.

  • El experimento arrojó resultados inconclusos. Como se mencionó anteriormente, se requiere un análisis adicional para llegar a conclusiones definitivas.

5. INCIDENTALLY

• Significado: before saying something that is not as important as the main subject of conversation, but is connected to it in some way

• Sinónimo: By the way, as an aside, speaking of which

• Ejemplo: The company's profits have been steadily increasing. Incidentally, they are also expanding their operations overseas.

  • Los beneficios de la empresa han estado aumentando constantemente. Por cierto, también están expandiendo sus operaciones en el extranjero.

6. FURTHERMORE

• Significado: used to introduce a fresh consideration in an argument

• Sinónimo: moreover, in addition

• Ejemplo: The method is simple; furthermore, it is cost-effective.

  • El método es simple; además, es rentable.

7. IN VIEW OF THE FOREGOING

• Significado: Considering the information or arguments presented earlier

• Sinónimo: considering the above, consequently

• Ejemplo: The evidence presented strongly supports the hypothesis. In view of the foregoing, it can be concluded that the theory is valid.

  • La evidencia presentada respalda firmemente la hipótesis. A la luz de lo anterior, se puede concluir que la teoría es válida.

8. NEVERTHELESS

• Significado: In spite of that

• Traducción: No obstante

• Ejemplo: The task is difficult; nevertheless, it must be completed.

  • La tarea es difícil; no obstante, debe completarse.

9. INSOFAR

• Significado: To the extent that

• Sinónimo: As far as

• Ejemplo en inglés: Insofar as the data allows, conclusions can be drawn regarding the hypothesis.

  • En la medida en que los datos lo permitan, se pueden extraer conclusiones sobre la hipótesis.

10. INCONTROVERTIBLY

• Significado: Impossible to dispute or doubt

• Sinónimo: Undoubtedly

• Ejemplo: The facts were incontrovertibly clear.

  • Los hechos eran indudablemente claros.

11. NOTABLY

• Significado: Particularly; especially; significantly

• Sinónimo: Especially

• Ejemplo: Several key factors contributed to the success of the project, notably the dedication of the team members.

  • Varios factores clave contribuyeron al éxito del proyecto, especialmente la dedicación de los miembros del equipo.

12. SUBSEQUENTLY

• Significado: After a particular thing has happened

• Traducción: Posteriormente

• Ejemplo: The theory was proposed in 1999 and subsequently confirmed by several studies.

  • La teoría fue propuesta en 1999 y posteriormente confirmada por varios estudios.

13. ERGO

• Meaning:

• Linking word with similar meaning: Therefore

• Traducción: Ergo, por lo tanto

• Ejemplo: The evidence was incontrovertible; ergo, the defendant was found guilty.

• Significado: In a way that is appropriate to the particular circumstances

• Significado: used when you want to give more detail or be more exact about something you have just said

16. ADMITTEDLY

• Significado: Acknowledging a point or fact that may weaken one's argument

• Sinónimo: Granted; conceding

• Ejemplo: The initial results were promising. Admittedly, further research is needed to confirm these findings.

  • Los resultados iniciales fueron prometedores. Concediendo, se necesita más investigación para confirmar estos hallazgos.

17. CONVERSELY

• Significado: Opposite in nature, direction, or meaning

• Linking word with similar meaning: On the contrary

• Traducción: Por el contrario

• Ejemplo: Exercising regularly promotes physical health. Conversely, a sedentary lifestyle can lead to health issues like obesity.

• Significado: used to show that the next point, idea, or argument is connected or consistent with what has just been mentioned.

20. NOTWITHSTANDING

• Significado:

• Linking word with similar meaning: Despite this

• Traducción: A pesar de

• Ejemplo: Notwithstanding the challenges, the project was completed on time.
